HPG 2009 Cover

An image featured in research presented by UPCRC Illinois was chosen for the HPG 2009 proceedings cover. Co-located with SIGGRAPH 2009, the Conference on High-Performance Graphics (HPG 2009) was held in New Orleans Agusut 1-3, 2009. The image is of a Siebel Center staircase — which was shaded 3.5 times faster using a SIMD sorter developed at Illinois. The Thomas M. Siebel Center is home to the Universal Parallel Computing Research Center and the department of computer science at the University of Illinois. John C. Hart presented the paper, Stream Compaction for Deferred Shading, during a session on GPU computing. Jared Hoberock, Victor Lu, and Yuntao Jia contributed to this research. An inagural event, the Conference on High Performance Graphics merged previous conferences on graphics hardware and real-time ray tracing.
